How to Properly Crack an Egg

Are you learning how to cook? Do you ever find that you worst enemy in the kitchen is the egg? When cracking an egg do you always find yourself having to plunge your hand into the slimy, cold, and slightly lumpy batter to retrieve a piece of shell?
Here is a quick tutorial on how to properly crack an egg.

1.) First you must select the right egg. You do not want the egg to be expired. Make sure the egg is not warm. Put the egg to your ear and listen, if you here any noise there is something seriously wrong with that egg so put it back. Feel the outside of the egg, if it feels too rough or to smooth do not use it. How will you be able to tell if it is too rough or too smooth? Trust me, you will know when you have found the right egg.

2.) Now you must get the right tools to crack the egg. A hammer would work to crack the egg but you would make a huge mess. Also the egg and shell would get mixed up, so if I were you I would find a different tool.

3.) Now a knife is better than the hammer. With a knife you will not mix the egg and shell but the knife could easily slip and cut your fingers. If I were you I would choose a different tool.

4.) Your hand, in my opinion, is definitely the best tool to get this job done. Using your hand, you can simply do a hard tap on the side of the bowl hitting the center of the egg to crack it. Now using both hands hold the egg over the bowl and break the halves apart.
Now, you might find one of the other methods easier but if you want to become a good chef, I would stick with cracking it on the side of the bowl. Which ever method you use make sure to wash your hands afterwards and fully cook the egg to avoid getting salmonella.

  1. Bella! I love your blog. I really enjoyed this post particularly. I think it is great how you mixed in some jokes and used multiple pictures instead of just one. It is visually appealing, and I like the layout of it all. Keep up the good work!
